Accl. Geometry - Ch. 8 Notes

Friday, January 29

College Algebra - We continued our discussion of the procedures employed for graphing the secant and cosecant functions. HW for Monday - Graph the following equations on the graph paper provided in class (also available online):

y = -2 csc (x - pi/4) - 1
y = 3 sec 1/2 (x + pi/2)

11:00
y = 1/2 sec 4(x) - 2
y = -2 csc (x - pi/4)

Note: These graphs will be collected in class on Monday.

Accl. Geometry - We concluded our discussion of basic area formulas, focusing on Heron's Formula for finding the area of a triangle. HW for Monday - Complete the Heron' Formula worksheet distributed in class and the area review packet distributed in class. Review for Monday's quiz covering Sec. 8.1 - 8.3.

Thursday, January 28

College Algebra - We began our dsicussion of precedures employed when graphing the secant and cosecant functions. HW for Friday - Complete pgs. 400 - 401 #15 - 17, #22 - 23, #30 - 34 (omit #33).

Accl. Geometry - We continued our discussion of area formulas, focusing on Pick's Formula for finding the area of a figure on a square grid. HW for Friday - Complete pgs. 435 - 437 #1 - 8.

Wednesday, January 27

College Algebra - We completed our discussion of modeling data using sinusoidal graphs and sine regression on the graphing calculator. HW for Thursday - Complete pg 393 #13 and #16.

Accl. Geometry - We discussed methids for deriving the area formulas for triangles, kites, and trapezoids. HW for Thrusday - Complete pgs. 430 - 431 #1 - 16.

Accl. Geometry - Students will begin their review of Ch. 6 in preparation for a test early next week. Students should complete the worksheet distributed in class and return to Mrs. Will before the end of the hour. HW for Friday - pgs. 359 - 362 #1 - 20, #27 - 33.

Accl. Geometry - We continued our discussion of circles focusing on the properties of chords in a circle (Sec. 6.2). HW for Thursday - Complete pgs. 320 - 321 #1 - 12.

Tuesday, January 5

College Algebra - We reviewed solving triangles using the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines. We completed an in-class group assessment covering Sec. 5.7 - 5.8. HW for Wednesday - Read Sec. 5.1 and complete pg 281 # 27 - 42 and #45 - 50.

Accl. Geometry - We comcluded the ALEKS online algebra assessment. The purpose of this assessment was two-fold ... 1) to assist with the placement of students into math classes for the 2010-11 school year and 2) to assist us with making changes to the geometry curriculum as needed. HW for Wednesday - Read Sec. 6.1 and complete the review worksheets distributed in class. Note: Several files have been added to my webpage to assist with the completion of these worksheets ...

College Algebra - We reviewed the last new content covered in the fall - Law of Sines and Law of Cosines (Sec. 5.7 - 5.8). HW for Tuesday - pg. A35 (back of book) Lesson 5-7 #1 - 4 and Lesson 5-8 #1 - 2.

Accl. Geometry - We completed the ALEKS online assessment. When finished, you should read Sec. 6.1. To assist with your understanding of the section, refer to the sketchpad files available on my webpage. HW for Tuesday - Read Sec. 6.1 and complete pgs. 313 - 316 #1 - 6, #16 - 18.
