Internet Issues ...

... it appears that we are still having internet issues with the U-High netbooks.  Apparently, students can access the internet only when connected to the ISU network (at school or on the ISU campus).  When you try to connect from a internet provider other than ISU, you are blocked from any page other than the U-High homepage and possibly Blackboard.  You should, however, be able to access the online textbook from your home computer, etc.

I will attempt to correct this issue in the next hour or so.  Please check back after 6:00 pm to see if we have been able to correct the problem.

Tuesday, January 29

Geometry - We completed our Ch. 5 Test in class today.  HW for Wednesday - Complete the following ...

Modern Math - We continued our discussions of Ch. 8, focusing on the inclusion of independent events in the scheduling process (8.7).  HW for Wednesday - Read Sec. 8.7.

Absences ...

A quick reminder to my students ... being absent the day BEFORE a test does not excuse you from taking the test on the assigned day.  Chapter tests are announced at least 2 days ahead of time both in class on on the HW blog.  In nearly every case, we spend the day before in class reviewing for the test.  If you are absent, you should still be able to review on your own ... take the online interactive practice tests/quizzes, review old quizzes from the chapter, etc.

If you miss the day before a test and you do not feel prepared to take the test in class the day you return, you need to be prepared to take the test at one of the following times ...
- free hour or after school later that day
- in class the next day
- free hour or after school the next day

The longer it takes you to make up the test, the longer I have to wait to return the graded tests to everyone else in the class.

Grading Changes in Geometry for 2nd Semester

In an attempt to better communicate with parents and to hold my students more accountable for their daily work, I have changed the way that grades will be posted in Skyward.

You will now see only two categories of assignments ...
- Assessments, which includes all GRADED assignments (quizzes, tests, projects, etc)
- Homework, which includes daily assignments that I check for completeness only

The assignments in the Homework category will count 0% towards a students grade.  Scores are posted in this category to provide parents with more information on the student's daily work.  Remember, these assignments are NOT graded - the posted score simply reflects the amount of work the student completed for that assignment.  It is the student's responsibility to secure additional answers not provided in class and to ask questions (or seek additional assistance) for problems/topics they do not fully understand.

If you have questions regarding this chance in my grading procedures, feel free to contact me via e-mail - masondg@ilstu.edu.
